It's still entirely possible that all that poise and confidence could evaporate against a real defense, whereas Jackson could like an all-star throwing against third-stringers. Impossible to say.

Concerning Denver, I can tell you that whoever starts at QB will be facing Elvis Dumervil, Von Miller, and Champ Bailey at CB. And if they're using the preseason to knock the rust off like SD and MIN, they'll probably play hard.Brandon Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03533683928083230398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-49360916780874994872011-08-23T15:06:47.280-07:002011-08-23T15:06:47.280-07:00I will grant exactly one point: judging with any l...I will grant exactly one point: judging with any level of certainty who the better QB is after 2 preseason games - given the specific circumstances - is nearly impossible.

As I have written elsewhere, even if CW started in Denver and performed well wouldn't make the case one way or the other - Denver's defense is different (we don't know for sure whether it is better or worse then San Dieog or Minnosota, only that it is different).

Having said that, and after watching both games carefully, and reading as much assessment as I can on both players, I would argue that today, at this point in the career of TJax and CW, on this team, CW is the better option.

TJax has a history of mediocrity - or worse. We have seen CW progress over the past couple of years, and he is light-years ahead of when he started in the league (check out his early pre-season work with San Diego - very unimpressive).

CW is more composed, shows a far better arm (touch, accuracy, strength) and appears more comfortable and competent at the position.

It's not just the stat line. Watch play for play, how each player conducts themselves.

It would be interesting to know how the players rate during practice (I assume they are graded). I would be willing to bet CW has the better grade.Hawksince77http://www.theinnonthelibrarylawn.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-53053961234290426242011-08-23T09:56:10.129-07:002011-08-23T09:56:10.129-07:00Generally yes, but not to the absolute degree you&...Generally yes, but not to the absolute degree you're suggesting. Not every blitzer leaves a receiver open.

Besides, I saw a couple of plays that did just that - took advantage of a blitzer to spring a tight end. They looked designed and not recognized, but it's something.Brandon Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03533683928083230398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-10793612810659990752011-08-23T07:34:03.519-07:002011-08-23T07:34:03.519-07:00There's a fundamental problem with this analys...There's a fundamental problem with this analysis: you're assuming blitzing makes it more difficult to complete passes. This is the opposite of true. For a competent QB, blitzes make passes fall-out-of-bed easy to complete; there's always someone open. The fact that TJ couldn't find the open man and give him the ball means he's inviable as an NFL quarterback, period. Teams will do exactly what the Vikings did - blitz him - and will therefore be able to avoid playing real defense or worrying about the game at all.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-62767050468209142892011-08-23T05:31:13.076-07:002011-08-23T05:31:13.076-07:00If the O line keeps blocking like they did in the ...If the O line keeps blocking like they did in the first half, we will see Charlie get first team snaps, after TJ gets concussed.

How many of you see Pete talk about Charlie and get the idea that Pete is not a big fan of his?Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03606055041796769662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-36336098235903525562011-08-23T00:54:58.479-07:002011-08-23T00:54:58.479-07:00You're hard on Charlie, but you make a good po...You're hard on Charlie, but you make a good point. TJ probably was the best of a bad (free agent QB)situation, and he's probably the better choice for game 1. But I'd like to see Charlie get some snaps with the first string before the preseason is over. It would be awesome if he that same poise against real competition, he has looked more natural in the pocket than last preseason, or in the Rams game.seattlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-7783824586510390622011-08-22T19:40:06.150-07:002011-08-22T19:40:06.150-07:00With this O-line, the only QB controversy this yea...With this O-line, the only QB controversy this year may be who's healthy enough to play next week. If he handles players, they are just scrubs.

Whitehurst has almost no real gametime experience. Yet you are will to dump on him because he hasn't been able to steal a job from Philip Rivers and long time entrenched QB Hasselbeck.

I think you need to be a little more open to the idea that you really don't know how good he is.

I like that Whitehurst is getting angry, I like that he show presence in the huddle and on the sidelines. I like the strong arm.

Now we need to see if he can take an A defense, get the ball to an A receiver(NO WAY does Rice drop a sure 1st down ball!).

What is obvious to me is that you have dumped our back up qb in a garbage pail with NO footage on those lines.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-26152673300478842052011-08-22T13:34:33.801-07:002011-08-22T13:34:33.801-07:00So Agreed! You put most QBs under taht type of pressure, there will be mistakes. On on of the three times Charlie got pressured, he threw waht should ahve been an ugly pick to the middle of the field. But not much is being said about that.

Side note: I excused Portis game against San Diego because, well, 3rd string. And yet, even though the stat line is crap, I saw him in the 2 minute offense against Minny and was impressed with his tools. His head is still full of sand and baby batter, and to have him as anything besides 3rd string would be folly, but there really is something there. In particular, the way he short strides into the pocket. The couple of sacks he took as the 4th wound down don't concern me, he was waiting for some downfield stuff to develop as the clock conspired, but he has pocket presence, looks down the field, and has all the tools to do the job. He reminds me of Romo. The good and the bad.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03606055041796769662noreply@blogger.com
