This is the worst off season to groom a QB because of the lockout. NO QB would be ready to play with the limited time that coaches are allowed to work with them. So Petey was playing the smart game and said, let's fix the O-line and building blocks and show some patience(something many people on this site are not showing) and wait until 2012 to address the QB issue. Giving the new QB and better line, a running game, and time to learn an offense...

I can hope...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-89989896286596073952011-05-23T17:06:45.585-07:002011-05-23T17:06:45.585-07:00Hey Brandon:

Last year L. Blount didnt even get drafted. We KNEW there was issues with him as a person, but histalent was undeniable.

Every team in the nfl overreacted to something that they actually knew was true.

Even with his boneheaded decisions, it didnt seem like blount was destined to go to prison or anything like that.

Blount is probably a future pro bowler, and every single team made a mistake by thinking his one bad decision was greater than his talent.

I think the same will happen with mallet. In a couple years people will be scratching their heads wondering why so many teams thought his vague red flags trumped his talent.

So just because every team passed on him twice doesnt mean that they know something we dont. Every team passed on Blount 7 times and the only team out of 32 that doesnt look stupid is the Bucs who got him for freeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-64617018587593118542011-05-20T10:17:10.897-07:002011-05-20T10:17:10.897-07:00Hey Brandon-Interesting article.

He is a big, potentially talented QB, but he may simply not be a good fit for Seattle's system.

Carroll has stated several times that he wants a mobile QB. There were more pressing needs to fill, such as O-Line, on days one and two.

An immobile Ryan Mallett behind last year's O-Line wouldn't have been very pretty.LouieLouienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-32705205974969012982011-05-20T09:05:56.551-07:002011-05-20T09:05:56.551-07:00I dont know, Brandon. You might have been wrong, b...I dont know, Brandon. You might have been wrong, but let's see what he does. If the situation develops as you predict, which it could, how much of a sure thing is it that he would have "blown up" in anyone else's face? That sounds like conjecture. The definite 'sure thing', in that scenario, is his performance. And the teams who passed on him, even/especially if that means every one of them, probably messed up. A talent like that in the second round, IMO, is someone a rational front office would select, esp. if they've espoused their desire to pick a QB every year and their only one is Whitehurst. And after not getting one the year before.

But I agree that it's a good situation for him, just that it's not the only good one. Same thing for Jimmy Smith. I wish them both the best.

Seahawks could come along anyway, as a contender, and that would be improvement; but will they get to the Superbowl with this approach to rebuilding...medium-talent at low-premium positions over high-talent at high-premium positions? Please don't do this again next year, Pete.seattlenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-45604240432988716392011-05-20T06:28:14.538-07:002011-05-20T06:28:14.538-07:00I will wonder down the road if the Pat's had&#...I will wonder down the road if the Pat's had'nt taken Mallett would we have. I was in agreement that RM was a first round talent if his head was considered "on straight". I agree that his slide was proof that it was not.

For us to pass on Kaepernick at #25 seemed at first to be a strong voice in the OL first arguements made by the war room leaders but in retro his lower leg surgery may have helped that afore mentioned stratedgy evolve.

Once they went with Carpenter the dye was cast to go with a Moffit/extra pick(s) follow up since the revamping of the OL was a package deal.woofunoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-23830747710128927202011-05-20T05:30:04.419-07:002011-05-20T05:30:04.419-07:00I need to read better. Even he has vaguely, but without shape, comfirmed them by parsing his english to say he is innocent of the rumors without actually saying he is innocent. Even now, with his slide in the draft, no one has given any real shape to the allegations. irritating, isn't it?

And Crabtree's holdout may have been shorter, or even nonexistent, if he had gone fourth. He wanted to be the highest paid WR even though DHB went before him. If he goes 4th overall, no such issue. Curry still saw most of camp, and GOT PAID as well. Ruskell was willing to hand out cash, he just wanted 6 years out of his top picks. I think Crabs would have liked Curry's deal. I agree with Dalar, Crabs might have been the better pick. He lacks maturity, but doesn't have off field garbage. He was a red shirt sophomore, he might grow up.

Can you tell I am still bitter about Curry over Crabs? (that google search brings up some delicious sounding recipes, BTW)Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03606055041796769662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-29276591769335468732011-05-19T21:48:18.087-07:002011-05-19T21:48:18.087-07:00I think the lad likes to party, just a feeling wit...I think the lad likes to party, just a feeling with no "source" reliable or otherwise to back it up. I also think he had the most talent and experience with a pro style offense in the draft so yes, at the time, I wanted Carroll and Schneider to draft him. And then he just started dropping and dropping.

New England had the luxury of taking a chance with him, and as low as he eventually landed, it wasn't much of a chance, contract-wise. I don't think we could have even had that same luxury had we wanted it.

And looking with hindsight, I still think Crabs might just have been a wiser decision than Curry, primadona attitude, holdout, and all.Jonathan Dalarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08001176878191347542noreply@blogger.com
