But then Seattle found themselves in the playoffs without a shot at any of the top-tier QB's in this draft. They only available free agent QB with much of a future left is Kyle Orton, and while I'd love to bring him in, he'll be coveted by all kinds of teams.

It's circumstances that put Matt in Tier 2 for me and not his own play, although he does deserve props for his playoff performances.Brandon Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03533683928083230398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-59934620502986698022011-01-29T11:56:48.345-08:002011-01-29T11:56:48.345-08:00We need to stop pretending Matt is anything above ...We need to stop pretending Matt is anything above tier 3, till we figure that out this team will continue to be hoping that 7-9 wins your division.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-87973921344551502712011-01-29T10:54:37.492-08:002011-01-29T10:54:37.492-08:00Good points, Kearly. You may be much more knowledgeable on the offensive line than I am.

As far as Lynch, haven't we seen him minimize the damage from a ton of backfield tackles? I remember Lynch's debut in the first Bears game; we were getting excited about how Lynch broke tackles that would have dropped Julius Jones for loss and turned them into no-gains or short gains. That particular skill has come and gone and come again during the season, so perhaps he just needs more consistency.

Diags, thanks for the visit. I think Seattle will need to break the bank and guarantee Leon a bigger offensive role if they want to keep him. Appealing to Carroll's magnetism to get him to stay feels like pushing luck. This second Carroll offseason will certainly show us how the guy retains players in addition to acquiring them, so it'll be interesting.Brandon Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03533683928083230398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-74501801245447425692011-01-29T10:34:18.779-08:002011-01-29T10:34:18.779-08:00I wonder about Leon Washington remaining with the ...I wonder about Leon Washington remaining with the club as well. He was an upgrade over Andrews, but still pushed back far too much. When not drawing a 1 on 1 vs a powerful DT, Gibson is a solid run blocker. Overall, I'd say he's a C+ as a run blocker and C- as a pass blocker. Not a bad backup, and good for a player grabbed off the street, but Seattle would be wise to do better than Mike Gibson at RG. Just like they we wise to do better than Brandon Frye at LT last offseason.

Lynch- this is where I'd love to have a handy advanced stat to back me up, but unfortunately all I can offer is observation. Marshawn Lynch, by most measurements, had one of the most miserable seasons in the NFL last year. It would be easy to be displeased. The thing I noticed about Lynch, is that he displays a bit of a "head of steam" running style. Hit him in the backfield, and he's screwed, but give him a nice hole to run through and he can turn a 5 yard run into 7 or 8 yards. If Seattle is truly invested in fixing the line and running a smashmouth offense, then Lynch could become a minor asset. But if they try to skip by with street FA's, a big name OL coach and late rounders like Tim Ruskell did, Lynch will be a disaster next season, and so will a smashmouth offense.

I'd probably put Gibson in tier 3 and Lynch somewhere between 2 and 3.

Agree with most of the rest. Even though Cable prefers bigger lineman, Andrews and Willis are as anti-zone as it gets, and Seattle should find better fits with equal talent.Kipnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-31642925373207052422011-01-28T22:51:04.423-08:002011-01-28T22:51:04.423-08:00I was the 2nd comment. Thanks for spotting that!

In regards to Unger, he's just got an awkward built for a pro lineman. He plays high and loses leverage a lot. He spends too much time getting pushed back. Still, he deserves to be kept around for depth and further development, but a logjam at center and guard makes his future tough to see.Brandon Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03533683928083230398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-27499570832042080062011-01-28T19:44:42.742-08:002011-01-28T19:44:42.742-08:00I don't see how you give Konz a pass but say M...I don't see how you give Konz a pass but say McCoy is expendable.
