It is hard to ignore that. But would it be hard to bench him with a late second round contract?

But as you're all saying, this is all likely to be proven moot anyway come April. It's becoming harder to see Carroll passing on this upcoming QB class. One way or another, we'll have a much better handle on his beliefs about positional value once April arrives.Brandon Adamshttp://17power.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-4204600550460812682011-11-03T14:22:23.625-07:002011-11-03T14:22:23.625-07:00Great read. Interesting, this is all personnel/GM stuff, and I think most of them really are falling in the Hawks favor, or will be proven so with the next draft. My biggest question is can Pete win on the field, with the X's and O's. I've come to see the method behind the madness in player acquisition, but am not at all confident that the calls on game day will follow.Kylenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-26240201419064406162011-11-03T13:24:12.076-07:002011-11-03T13:24:12.076-07:00Very good article. I will say, however, that I am one of those who believes that Carroll hasn't drafted a franchise type QB because "there weren't any good options."

Carroll's first draft the only option was Clausen. We're all glad the Hawks passed.

This last draft, sitting at 25, the only option available was a trade into the top 10 for Gabbert, Locker, or god forbid, Ponder. None of those guys, in my opinion, would be worth the capital it would have taken to trade up that high.

Other than that they could have taken one of Dalton, Kaepernick, or Mallett. Dalton and Kaepernick were never first round prospects, nor should they have been.

Which leaves us with Mallett as Carroll's only legitimate option at the position to this point in his Seahawk's career.

I was just as big a fan of Mallett as the next guy, in fact I thought he was the best QB prospect in the draft, but to believe that Carroll's decision to pass on him was only because he didn't fit his scheme is silly. Mallett didn't fall to the third round for no reason, he fell because of some pretty serious character concerns. You may want to pass them off as baseless rumors, but a prospect with Mallett's talent doesn't fall into the middle of the third round on rumors alone.

It's not like Seattle was the only QB needy team to pass. Miami had none of the scheme restriction of Carroll yet still decided to go in another direction. The same can be said of Arizona and Oakland.Troyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14253780010613473205noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3012469417215497172.post-64184589297323423542011-11-03T06:20:14.725-07:002011-11-03T06:20:14.725-07:00Would have taken any other QB than Mallett availab...Would have taken any other QB than Mallett available at Seattle's picks?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
